Today we are talking about home staging and preparing your home for sale. When it comes to staging, you have a few different options as far as what to do.

If you have a vacant home or some odd spaces, you might want to consider hiring a professional. They can come in, add furniture, paint, and do what it takes to give your home a warm inviting feel. The drawback with doing this, however, is that professional stagers can be a little expensive.

If you are on a budget, there are a lot of things you can do on your own, such as,
  • De-clutter: People like open spaces and to feel like they aren't cramped. If you have large pieces of furniture or an overflowing closet, take those out. Take everything on the counter-tops away as well and pack it all up.
  • Lighting: Let the light shine in. People do not like dark homes. Open your shades, pull the curtains back, and clean those windows. Replacing light bulbs is also a good idea.
  • Clean: A good rule of thumb is "cleaning until it sparkles." It gives the impression that the home is well maintained and that will extend to the rest of the house. Make sure any smells are taken care of as well. If you've got pets, you probably don't even smell anything, but potential buyers do.
  • Curb Appeal: Your curb appeal is very important. How your home looks to buyers as they walk up to it is their first impression, and you want to make a good one.
